I was one of the last holdovers from the first Easton stealth series which had shoulder cap durability issues. I finally went to the store to buy some new shoulders. I went in looking for the Mako but got these instead.
These are quite a big bigger compared to the Stealth, but they feel a LOT more protective. Compared the other shoulder pads, even the APX's, the material is a lot stiffer -- the foam is segmented rather than one peice, almost like plate amour
And that's basically what it feels like. I like my pants relatively loose but well-padded, and these sort of provide the same feeling in the shoulders. When moving up from slimmer lines, it took some adjustment, but ultimately, it fits the way I like to play, if circumstances allow it, and it gives me a kind of psychological edge. I'm not a big guy, but I like the feeling of being able to skate low to the ice with abandon, and throwing your body into the play for those puck battles even if at times you just 'bounce off' somebody ;-)
Note that the shoulder caps sit relatively high. Basically, they are stiffer, heavily padded, and give the feeling of moving 'inside' the pads. These might be a bit over the top -- they are, I believe, the heaviest padding out there, but I do highly recommend them depending on what you're going for. They are unique, that's for sure.
