These x7.0's replaced a five year old pair of Bauer XXX's. The x7.0 seems to be identical to the XXX but evolved and improved at the margin over the last 5 years. I think the price point of approximately $450 is the same. The boot is largely the same. I will say both the boot and the tongue on the x7.0 are stiffer though. They are definitely light.
These modern boots are not comfortable. At least Bauer offers three different fits now, as opposed to narrow and narrower from a few years ago. Even if you are used to a certain boot now, I would encourage you to try on the other fits (Vapor, Nexus, Supreme all fit differently).
My biggest beef with these modern boots is they dont last. I am comparing the x7.0s and XXXs to my previous two pair Micron Mega 10-90 Pros (8 years of daily usage) and Bauer 5000s (10 years of 1-2x per week usage). That said, they are so much lighter and stiffer that the trade off is worthwhile. I dont think they offer any better protection. Getting hit on the foot with a slapshot still hurts. Ouch.
So while I've only skated on the x7.0s maybe five times now in the last couple weeks, I expect they will last the same 5 years my XXX's last of 1-2x sessions per week, which is not impressive. My XXX's cracked on the toe where the boot meets the toe cap. My teammate has the same skates that are about the same age and he has the same crack.
Overall its a good skate and I would recommend it, but it is not a perfect skate.
