We replaced an Itech 255 Lil Rookie pads with this, so my review will be more of a comparison between the two. They are a lot alike in many ways.
Pros: The big differences is the chest/sternum protector is wider on the Bauer. Also, the shoulder caps are formed around the shoulders more than what the Itech was. The bicep protection is softer on the Bauer, so it wraps around my son's arm. The Itech was a hard plastic insert that was stiff and provided great protection to the outside of the arm, but left the front, back, and inside more open without protection.
Neutral: There is no removable lower abdomen pad like on the Itech. I put this as a neutral because the way my son's pants fit, the extra pad was just tucked in his pants anyways and was kind of pointless. The Bauer pad is a little bit longer where the bottom of the pad is overlapping my son's pants where the Itech ended at the belt if not for the extended pad added.
Negative: I'm not sure how else to put it but it was an easy fix. The Velcro around the waist was to small. My son is tall and lanky. We have to buy him size 7 pants for the length but in the waist he fits in a 5. I ended up sewing another fuzzy side patch of Velcro between the two already there, and under the sternum pad. This resolved the issue for us. Though this may not be an issue with a lot of kids.
It's comfortable, or so my son says. He said it's more comfortable than the Itech. He has no issues with restricted mobility in these either. It gives him outstanding protection out on the ice also.
