Before I bought the x40's I was wearing RBK 6K shin pads and wanted something smaller, thinner, and lighter. The x40's were everything I was looking for. I can feel an increase range of motion and mobility in my stride, crossovers, and dorsiflexion at my ankles(forward lean). These shin pads are very comfortable worn behind or in front of skate tongue. They are very light and cool when on the ice. I have taken multiple slap shots off these pads and have not had any bruises or residual discomfort after the game. My only issue with these pads is there could be better calf protection that fully wraps around the back of my calf. These pads leave a good amount of unprotected space and my calfs are not that big. Overall these are the best shin pads I have used with regards to overall comfort, mobility, range of motion, ability to place in front of or behind skate tongue comfortably, and protection except for posterior calf protection. One last note Velcro straps are comfortable if placed around lightly, not as comfortable if placed snug but just use tape around top of shin pad and that is all you need to hold it in place.
