We have all played hockey using our regular socks at one point. This is what I've been doing for 15 years while being a goaltender. I always thought, what's so special about "performance" socks that I need to pay so much for? Well, I finally gave in and splurged on a pair of socks that would only be use for hockey games.
The good: The socks are very comfortable and smooth when using them inside your skates. Smooth meaning they do not grip and pull like normal cotton socks. These Bauer socks help you slide very easily into the boot and really have a good feel against your skin. Tough to describe but almost "velvety". It allows you to really "feel" your skate better than a regular sock. The socks do come up very high on the leg. They go halfway up your calf like very long dress socks. For me, I also noticed that they kept my feet warmer which I wasn't expecting.
The bad, if any, is size. There is not much you can do with this as it's a one size fits all but it's not that tight either. I'm a size 10.5 (USA shoe) and they are more taught and hug your foot more closely than "regular" socks. It's most likely done on purpose since it's a performance sock. In no way are they uncomfortable but it takes a moment to put them on your foot as the material they are made of, hold its form and not get loose and stretch out like your standard white socks. The socks hug your calf and will not be falling down around your ankles.
For those of you who don't have comfortable skates, these socks may make you notice a little more as they socks really make you feel your skates. The socks are perfectly thick enough but they aren't like your soft cotton socks that give you some extra padding in the boot. The better your skates the better you'll appreciate the socks.
